Origami - An unexpedctedly different Japanese restaurant

Miwa and Kohei from restaurant Origami, Antigua GuatemalaWhen Miwa and Kohei Okura decided to leave Japan for a long trip in 2012, they would have never expected that three years later they'd be the proud owners of a restaurant they would name Origami in a distant town called Antigua Guatemala on the other side of the globe. But that's what this city does to travelers, it captivates them with its beauty, its culture and its climate and seldom releases them from its enchantment, just like the sirens in Homer's Odyssey. Luckily, unlike the poor mariners' souls in Greek mythology, those who decide to call Antigua their home find a very pleasant life here.

But let's get back to the young couple. With the determination and the professionality that's common to the children of the rising sun, they have catapulted Origami to the top ten restaurants in Antigua in just a few months. And with good reason. The menu is simple, which is good because it leaves room for attention to detail, just like the Japanese tradition of paper folding from which the restaurant takes its name. As an interesting detail, Miwa and Kohei point out that the phonetics of Origami hint at the organic origin of most ingredients used in their menu. As with the name, the young couple left no aspect of their restaurant to chance.
