Mamma's, Antigua GuatemalaReaders who follow Degustantigua with some regularity could easily get the impression that Antigua's gastronomy is dominated by foreigners who arrived to these shores with a mission to introduce the specialties of their respective countries. Certainly, their stories intrigue and their dishes inspire but rest assured, Guatemalan restaurants still form a comfortable majority. And while they cannot claim to be exotic, they easily make up for that with creativity and dedication that is the envy of their international counterparts.

Take the example of Mamma's, the restaurant on 4th. Calle Oriente no. 5, founded two years ago by Mayra and Jacky. The passionate mother - daughter chefs,  have an impressive experience in the field.  With a real family tradition, gastronomy has always flown in their veins.  Their famous Flan Antigüeño is even patented in all of Central America. Despite the family tradition, Mamma's is aimed at a young audience with a fresh, modern menu. A few days ago we met Mayra who told us what motivated her to embark on this new culinary adventure.
